Camp Abby - 30,000 memories

Camp Abegweit, located in Augustine Cove and sponsored by the Prince Edward Island United Church, provides an ecumenical environment and is one of the province’s oldest summer youth camps.

Since 1946, the camp has welcomed young people from right across Prince Edward Island. Over that time, more than 30,000 campers have enjoyed all the Camp has to offer, making memories and friendships that last them for the rest of their lives. But Camp Abegweit hasn’t just been giving these kids great memories, it’s been giving them a great grounding in life and how to live it.

The camp has always focused on quality learning and experiences. The program development, activities and counsellors are guided by the following principles:

    •  Unique activities designed to involve and educate
    •  Individual attention, recognizing individual needs
    •  A focus on an outdoor “camping” experience
    •  Spiritual development
    •  Cultural development
    •  Fostering a spirited, fun environment
    •  Building an appreciation for the natural world
    •  Practical experiences in democratic living
    •  Leadership growth & development

Camp Abegweit has helped to provide sports, activities, nature & conservation education, spiritual growth and a whole new world of friendship for the youth of three generations.

Now it’s Camp Abegweit that needs some help.

The Need

Despite all the maintenance work, all the volunteer hours of repairs, all the upgrades to facilities and equipment, sixty years has taken its toll. Today, Camp Abegweit desperately needs to be brought into the 21st century. The camp needs a total makeover, including a new lodge and new staff accommodation facilities, and renovations/upgrades to camper cabins, a craft cabin and a recreation room. Significant site improvements, as well as recreational facilities and equipment, are also needed. Without improvements, the future of the camp is in serious jeopardy

The project — Our children, Our challenge.
To raise a minimum of $1,000,000 to redevelop Camp Abegweit to enable the children and youth of PEI to continue to have access to a quality Christian camping experience over the next 25 years.
